New Flegere Bike Park Review
Jul 26, 2010
The creation of series of downhill mountain bike tracks at the Flegere are now complete.
In preparation for their big reveal in June the tracks were re-covered with natural grassing and a network of signs were put up.
Two tracks are now on offer here, one red and one blue. They come down from the top of the Index chairlift now equipped with a bike rack and arrive at the top of the Flegere cable car. A third track descends all the way down to le Praz from the top of the cable car giving a massive vertical drop of 1,400 meters. The return track down to Le Praz is classified red mainly because of the length of the track.
Read a review of the new tracks before you try them yourself here.
Cosmos Jazz Festival 2010
Jul 20, 2010
Begins Tuesday 27 July 2010 through to Thursday 29 July 2010
Entry Free!
This is an entirely free festival and is the fruit of the imagination of André Manoukian, with the backing of Chamonix municipal authority. This festival will offer the public and visitors to the valley a chance to enjoy the sights and sounds of improvisers from distant lands, playing in the most beautiful high-mountain locations.
When it’s time for the Apérojazz (jazz aperitif), the streets will resonate to the jazzy sound of brass bands that are let loose on the town. In the evening, the musicians and audience can gather together at the Jam de Cham jam sessions in a “club” until the end of the night. This promises to be a celebration of authentic, intense and rare roots music all to be enjoyed amidst the most beautiful and natural setting of Chamonix.

2018 winter Olympics plans revamped to focus on Chamonix
Jul 19, 2010
Annecy has revamped it's plans for the winter Olympics, with all the events now focused on being staged in Annecy & our very own Chamonix! The Alpine events and the ice hockey will be held here, with the remainder of the events being held in Annecy, La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and La Plagne.
France has hosted the Olympic ganes three times in it's history, with the first ever winter games being held in Chamonix in 1924.
The race for selection is down to just three at this stage: Chamonix, Munich and Pyeongchang, South Korea, with the IOC making it's selection in July 2011. Fingers crossed!
